The Ancient City of Kamiros

row 1
On the north-western shore of Rhodes, close to the promontory of Agios Minas (the ancient Mylantio) lies the third and smallest of the island's ancient cities, Kamiros.

When the settlement of classical times was leveled by an earthquake in 226 BC, the city was re-built in line with the Hippodamean system, on three levels.

On the lowest of these stood the Hellenistic temple, the Doric fountain and the perivolos of the altars. On the middle level stood the main part of the city and at the top of the hill was the acropolis with the temple of Athena and the Stoa.
